Movers & Shakers: Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani & Christina Applegate
August 27, 2008

Pop singer, Katy Perry, gained 605% this week after denying she's feuding with her family. Earlier this month, Katy's Christian preacher mother, Mary Hudson, reportedly described her daughter's chart-topping single I Kissed A Girl as "shameful and disgusting" and said she was "disappointed" in Katy for using the track to "promote homosexuality," prompting rumors of a family fallout. In response, Katy has admitted that I Kissed A Girl and her previous single Ur So Gay aren't exactly her mother's favorites, but insists that both parents are behind her and that they like all the other tracks on her One For The Boys album. "I'm sure they opt out of singing I Kissed a Girl or Ur So Gay," said Katy. "But they're singing along to every other song on the record."

Gwen Stefani gained 580% after giving birth to her second child on August 21. Stefani, 38, and rocker husband, Gavin Rossdale, 40, welcomed baby boy, Zuma Nesta Rock, into the world weighing 8 lbs, 5 oz. The new baby boy joins the couple's other son, Kingston, who turned 2 in May. Proud grandfather, Douglas Rossdale, told the press he can't wait to meet his new grandson. He gushed, "Everyone is just so very happy. It's fantastic news, and I'm just so happy."

Christina Applegate gained 365% when news revealed that the Emmy award-winning actress is undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Applegate detected the disease early and is expected to fully recover following treatment. The 36-year-old star released a statement confirming the illness through television news magazine Extra stating, "Benefiting from early detection through a doctor-ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening. I am following the recommended treatment of the doctors and will have a full recovery. No further statement will be issued at this time." Applegate is currently starring in Samantha Who?, where she portrays a woman who awakes from a coma with no memory of who she is. She has been nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the show. In 2003, Applegate also won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as one of Jennifer Aniston's younger sisters in Friends.

On the Move
Movers & Shakers: Dane Cook, Isaac Hayes and Nick Jonas
August 19, 2008

Dane Cook gains 445% this week on this week's Movers & Shakers after the promotion poster for his new movie, My Best Friend's Girl, was released. The comedian claims his new film with Kate Hudson is the "best/funniest film I've done yet," but announced on his MySpace Blog, the poster doesn't do the film justice. "Although I'm not a marketing major, I have a bit of a trusted reputation after 18 years self promoting," he writes. "I'd like to inform you I had no say in this marketing campaign, but if I did, things would be different since it is obvious that this poster is boring/odd." Cook, 36, listed 10 dislikes about the poster and did not hold back. The funny and raunchy list included problems with the characters' looks, the set, his lips, head, skin and at number seven, he jokes about his hair saying, "It's actually a close up shot of Tom Selleck's Magnum P.I. mustache they photo-slapped on my noggin'."

Isaac Hayes gained 533% after his unexpected death on August 10. The 65-year-old funk-soul legend was found unresponsive at his home in Tennessee. Hayes's life was celebrated in an emotional funeral service held in Memphis on August 17. During the four-hour service, which included video and music, U.S. Representative Steve Cohen said the city should celebrate Hayes as it does Elvis Presley, even mentioning the idea of naming the local airport after the soul singer. Over 500 mourners, including Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, and Wesley Snipes, attended the ceremony, presided over by an official from The Church of Scientology.

Nick Jonas gained 225% this week as ex-girlfriend, Miley Cyrus, admitted that she and Nick were "in love." Cyrus, 15, says in the September issue of Seventeen magazine, "We became boyfriend and girlfriend the day we met.".He was on a quest to meet me, and he was like, 'I think you're beautiful and I really like you.' And I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, I like you so much." According to Cyrus, the teen pop stars were inseparable. "For two years he was basically my 24/7. But it was really hard to keep it from people. We were arguing a lot, and it really wasn't fun." Cyrus doesn't rule out getting back together with the Jonas brother, though People magazine claims he's now dating fellow Disney Channel star Selena Gomez, 16.
