"Transformers" was our top film of the year, followed by "Pirates of the Caribbean 3," and "High School Musical 2." As far as the box office goes, "Spider-Man 3" was the winner of 2007 with a record $382 million worldwide, which came in at #4 on Lycos's list.

We saw a new #1 in television this year, with "Dancing with the Stars" overtaking "American Idol" for the top spot. Disney's "Hannah Montana" (played by Miley Cyrus, pictured) was an overwhelming success in 2007; "Hannah Montana" concert tickets sold out all over the country and being scalped for thousands of dollars. While the CW's "Gossip Girl" hasn't exactly been breaking ratings records, the teen soap developed a cult following online and shows up as our eighth most searched series this year. (This show is worth watching for Blair's and Serena's amazing hairstyles alone - sorry, author bias!)

The most searched news story of the year was the execution of Saddam Hussein, which actually occurred on December 30, 2006. The controversial Iran nuclear program also drove a great degree of search activity. Closer to home, web users were interested in the debut of the iPhone on June 29, 2007, gas prices, illegal immigration, and the Michael Vick dog-fighting scandal. On December 10, Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison.
