The Lycos 50 Daily Report
 The things you're searching for.November 17, 1999

Misty, Mew, and Regis Too!

Don't tell us: Pokemon and game shows have been on your minds lately, right? How do we know? Take a look at some of this week's fastest-rising search terms:
Misty and Mew
These two are the breakout stars of the new Pokemon movie -- so say our search logs. Misty is one of the young Pokemon trainers; Mew (who looks like Austin Powers's Mr. Bigglesworth) is the oh-so-rare 151st Pokemon. Mew's evil alter ego MewTwo is one of the movie's baddies.

Brandy
Not so misty is Brandy. The teen singer and TV star was hospitalized over the weekend with a mysterious case of "dehydration." No explanation on what might have caused the dry spell.

ToysRUs
The megastore ToysRUs has been intensely popular in November, and would surely be in the Lycos 50 this week if we included commercial enterprises. (Did we mention that our own LYCOShop has a fine selection of toys?)

Shakespeare's Posse
Bill Shakespeare has made the Lycos 50 two of the last three weeks. His creations are getting hotter, too: Hamlet, MacBeth and King Lear have all been on the rise. (So what's with all the tragedies?)

Survivor
ABC's Regis Philbin-hosted Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is a smash hit, and now the other networks are trying to dream up a Millionaire-beater. The lattest attempt at Regis-cide is CBS's Survivor, which promises to give a million bucks away to the survivor of seven weeks on a tropical island.

    Mystery Terms

    Today's mystery term:

    Mireille

Our own search on this name turned up Mireille Gleizes, Belgian pianist. She seems friendly enough but surely she's not the hot search item... is she?

If you know better, please post a note on our boards. You'll be glad you did.

    Case Closed?

    Recent mystery terms explored:

Could ALISA searchers be looking for Alisa Flatow, the girl killed in a Gaza Strip bombing? boards thinks it may be so. Actress Alisa Reyes is another possibility, suggests boards.

A colleague suggests another angle: the odd Alisa Online lonely-hearts catalog of Russian women.

ROAST generated duelling theories of origin. On the one hand we have celebrity roasts for boards and the boards; on the other hand we have Thanksgiving boards.

Searches for BLEEK are probably aimed at rapper Malik Cox, aka Memphis Bleek, according to loyal user boards. Mr. Bleek has a new solo album on the market. To read more about him, click here.
