The Lycos 50 Daily Report
 The things you're searching for.November 15, 1999

Guys Who Sing

Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Shania Twain, Mariah Carey... women dominate the Lycos 50 music scene. If it wasn't for boy bands and the late Tupac Shakur, we'd have no male singers at all.

So which singin' guys are popular online? Here's a look at some of the crooners who fly just below the Lycos 50 radar.

Li'l Wayne
Lil' Wayne's first album, Tha Block is Hot, is #3 on the latest Billboard album list. The guy is fresh -- so fresh that you won't find much about him yet online.

Brian McKnight
Also high on the charts: romantic crooner Brian McKnight. His single "Back at One" is at #2.

Creed
Hard-rockin' Creed is no stranger to anyone who watches MTV. If you're not MTV-friendly, you can get the Creed story here.

LFO
We've mentioned the Lyte Funky Ones before, and they remain strong and steady with the teenybopper crowd. The only question: will they cross over to the mainstream before the boy band craze loses steam?

Tim McGraw
After the absurdly popular Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw is your most-requested male country star. He's the son of former baseball star Tug McGraw -- and he's married to country star Faith Hill.

Pink Floyd
Classic '70s band Pink Floyd will still be wowing 'em in the 21st century, judging from our search logs. (Given the band's reputation for woo-woo atmospheric music, these may be the same searchers who put marijuana at #24 on the Lycos 50.) The Floyd often beats even The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in user popularity.

Tomorrow: this week's new Lycos 50!

    Recent mystery terms explored:

ROAST generated duelling theories of origin. On the one hand we have celebrity roasts for boards and the boards; on the other hand we have Thanksgiving boards.

Searches for BLEEK are probably aimed at rapper Malik Cox, aka Memphis Bleek, according to loyal user boards. Mr. Bleek has a new solo album on the market. To read more about him, click here.

LUTHERAN: The very same Jon Reeves notes that the Lutheran church recently buried the hatchet with the Catholic church. Searches on the Vatican are up as well, so it seems we can stamp this one "solved."
