At #25, the social networking site, Facebook, is a newcomer to the Lycos 50. Facebook's rise is certainly no surprise ... it seems as if everyone between the ages 11 and 60 needs a 12-step program to cure their addictions to the site. (Are you at work right now? Take a walk around your office. We guarantee you'll see at least 13 people on Facebook. Who, incidentally, have all probably checked the site several times already today.) Though MySpace (#19) still ranks higher in search activity, we think that Facebook is, well, cooler. MySpace doesn't let you drop-kick or grope people. Facebook's open applications platform, in addition to its ability to allow users to stalk their acquaintances at all hours of the day, has really allowed it to take off.

Charges of abuse at Oprah Winfrey's school, the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, in South Africa propelled her search activity forward this week. A former dorm matron was arrested on charges including assault, indecent assault, and soliciting underage girls to perform indecent acts. Oprah said, "This has been one of the most devastating, if not the most devastating, experiences of my life. It has shaken me to my core."
