Halloween Hangover

With the big day past, let's see what rang your Halloween bell this year, search-wise:

Most popular topics: costumes and pumpkin carving.

Most popular misspellings: Holloween, Haloween, pumkin, Salem witch trails.

Most popular creepy character*: Edgar Allan Poe.

Vaguest searches: Halloween ideas and Halloween stuff.

Most unexpected hot topics: Halloween lesson plans and sexy Halloween costumes.

( * Marilyn Manson excepted )

Now here's what else you've been searching for the past few days:

Forex
Forex means foreign exchange, for you economic unhipsters. Online currency trading seems to be the latest hot topic with day traders.

EgyptAir #990
Another tragedy in the Atlantic as EgyptAir Flight 990 crashed early Sunday morning, killing 217 people. Several recent air disasters have taken place in the same vicinity, including the 1996 crash of TWA flight 800 and July's private plane crash of John F. Kennedy, Jr.

Christy Chung
The popular Hong Kong actress (and 1993's Miss Chinese International!) seems to be hot again after a childbirth hiatus. For details, try ChristyLand.

Science Fair Projects
We mentioned Science fair project searches last month, but user queries remain so strong we're bringing the term back for an encore. Who knew there was so much student science going on? Go you kids!

    Mystery Terms

    Today's mystery term:

    WOW

Take your pick: this sudden rise in "wow" searches could be for the Women of Wrestling, or for the e-mail game War of Wizards, or... well, we just don't know. Do you?

Post your explanation on our boards.

For previous mystery terms, visit the Lycos 50 archives.

    Case Closed!

    Recent mystery terms pondered:

CHESTER: Could these searches be for snack mascot Chester Cheetah? So says user boards. If they are -- why?

DICE turns out to be the name of a high-tech careers site, www.dice.com. They've got a big ad campaign going, it seems. Thanks to reader boards for the tip.

Also, boards notes that VH1 had a "where is the big loser now?" show on Andrew Dice Clay last week.

STEELY DAN: No clarity yet on this item, but user Tom M. says the group has made plans for a millennium concert. Meanwhile, boards says the 'Dan will be featured on the soundtrack of an upcoming Jim Carrey movie. Here's a CDNow blurb on that topic.
