"The Naked Truth"

Ah, freewheeling Russia.

Lately we've seen a new name showing up on our search logs: Svetlana Pesotskaya. Is she a new clubs? The latest Russian tennis prodigy?

No. Ms. Pesotskaya is the host of the year's hottest show on Russian TV: Golaya Pravda or "The Naked Truth." The format is simple enough: while she reads the day's news, Pesotskaya slowly strips off her clothes. By the time she gets to the sports you're seeing a lot more of her than you've ever seen of Dan Rather.

According to the Moscow Times, the show began as a joke but stayed on the air thanks to overwhelming public reaction. The paper notes helpfully that Golaya Pravda would be "totally boring" if Pesotskaya "did not strip seductively while going on in all seriousness about the Tax Code." Do tell.

Searches for Pesotskaya seem to go up and down radically, but last week they hit a new high: she got as many searches as Amnesty International and Wonder Woman and just a few less than Hillary Clinton or Yale University.

She only got about 10% as many queries as Pamela Anderson, it's true. But of course Ms. Anderson doesn't have to bother with delivering the news. (So far.)

For television programs of the non-naked variety, may we suggest Lycos TV?
