The Lycos 50 Daily Report
 The things you're searching for.October 29, 1999

One to Watch: Rogue Spear

Rogue Spear is the latest addition to the Tom Clancy-inspired Rainbow Six game series. It's a "shooter": your good-guy commandoes swap hot lead with various baddies, including everyone's favorite new whipping boys, the Russian Mafia. While it hasn't cracked our top 50, Rogue Spear was one of our fastest-growing queries last month, right up there with science fair projects and the Salem witch trials. It seems to be a hit.

Other terms you've been searching for lately:

Ikea
Ikea furniture gets razzed at length (so we're told) in the movie Fight Club. The store's revenge: "Ikea" queries are rising faster than "Fight Club" queries.

Incidentally, Brad Pitt is getting about 6 times as many user queries as his "Fight Club" co-star Edward Norton. And Norton is getting twice as many as corset-free co-star Helena Bonham Carter.

Calista
People grouse about her weight, but Calista Flockhart is still a hit on the web. Searches for Calista and Ally McBeal are both up this week.

Vegeta
Could Vegeta be the first breakout character for Dragonball Z? (He's the son of King Vegeta and the son-in-law of Dr. Briefs, if that's any help.) For more details, try the Planet Vegeta fan page.

Hot Wheels
The kiddie cars with the slick tires seem to be hot ever since Mattel announced a deal with Ferrari and other Formula One racing teams. Searches are up on both Hot Wheels and Ferrari.

    Mystery Terms

    Today's mystery term:

    Chester

Unless the Marilyn Monroe auction has inspired a nostalgic sale of Chester A. Arthur memorabilia, we have no idea why people are searching for this name. Do you?

Post your explanation on our boards.

    Case Closed!

    Recent mystery terms pondered:

DICE turns out to be the name of a high-tech careers site, www.dice.com. They've got a big ad campaign going, it seems. Thanks to reader boards for the tip.

STEELY DAN: No clarity yet on this item, but user Tom M. says the group has made plans for a millennium concert. Meanwhile, boards says the 'Dan will be featured on the soundtrack of an upcoming Jim Carrey movie. Here's a CDNow blurb on that topic.

AMANDA: We have two winners here. Amanda Bynes is the star of The Amanda Show, a goofy comedy that just debuted on Nickelodeon.

Actress Amanda Peet stars in another new show, Jack and Jill. Thanks to detective boards for the former tip, and inspectors boards and boards for the latter.
