| One to Watch: Allen Iverson |
Shaq? Forget him! Tim Duncan? Sorry, champ. With the NBA season just weeks away, the hoopster our users really want to see is Allen Iverson. The Philly point guard with the gaudy hair was easily the most-sought player on Lycos last week. (And that includes fans overseas.)
Other terms that are moving up our search logs:

| |
| Progs |
Progs is a hacker's term, relating in particular (it seems) to America Online. The rush on the term is possibly due to the recent password-stealing scam against AOL users. |
| |
| Furby |
Thought Furby was last year's news? Wrong! The chatty fuzzball is creeping up our search logs once again. |
| |
| Photography |
Photographers and photography have both risen quickly the last few days. Possible reason: PBS's documentary on 20th-century photography. |
| |
| Toys R Us |
The Toys R Us online store seems to be winning converts faster than you can say "Furby lives!" (If you're shopping for toys online, may we also suggest the Lycos toy store?) |
| |
| Colt |
The famed "Guns R Us" firm announced it will stop making some of its commercial models and lay off some workers. |
| |
| Figurines? |
Here's an oddie: we've noted a recent rush of queries for statuary: figurines, porcelain, bronze, and statues are the leading items. Why? If you know, won't you please leave a message on our boards board? |

 | Today's mystery term:
ANTS
These requests aren't about the movie ANTZ, near as we can tell. Is there some other reason people are searching for ants?
If you know, please post a message on our boards.

More on HAMPTON: friendly correspondent Cwbyjnkes says that "the rock band Phish is releasing a 6 disc live box set. This release encompasses the two nights of concerts in their entirety that took place at the Hampton Colieseum in 1998."
Hampton may also be a baseball name, according to e-mail from B. Shepard. He notes: "Last weekend, the Astros were playing the Braves in the baseball playoffs. The Astros were led by pitcher Mike Hampton, who had an
incredible year..."
"October 11 (was) THANKSGIVING day in Canada," writes reader boards. He was the first of several users to point out that this probably explains the rise in Thanksgiving queries mentioned in last Friday's report. We'll keep an eye on the term this week.
STEAK may be yet another query related to carbohydrate diets, guesses the boards. Apparently fleshy protein figures prominently in those low-carbo meal plans.
An alternate theory is offered by boards, who says that the DVD of the film The Matrix contains a secret code word at the end -- STEAK -- which can be used on the film's website. The Matrix jumped to #34 on the Lycos 50 last week, which makes this sound even more likely.
