| Special Fall TV Edition |
Three weeks into the new TV season, what's working? After scanning our search lists, we can safely say that the following items are grabbing viewer attention: |
|
|
| |
| Gina Gershon |
Gina Gershon has been hot since her new show Snoops premiered on Sunday. (The show was created by David E. Kelley, the same chap who created Ally McBeal.)
People don't seem to search for "Snoops" itself, and equally double-dissed are Gershon's costars, Paula Marshall and Paula Jai Parker -- they don't show up on our radar at all. |
| |
| SNL25 |
Also from last Sunday night's lineup, Saturday Night Live's 25th anniversary was a success. We've seen tons of searches on SNL25 -- apparently from people who don't realize that SNL25.com is, in fact, the official site's URL.
|
| |
| Felicity |
Last year's surpise hit Felicity is back for a fresh season of sweater-clad angst and tortured romance. (Note to fans: try clubs.) We're seeing many searches on "Felicity" and not many on star Keri Russell. |
| |
| ZoogDisney |
ZoogDisney is hot. The name has been rising steadily for a month or more, despite being clumsy to pronounce. ZoogDisney seems to be a sort of TV/web combo project; you play around on the complicated website, and if you're lucky your name then shows up on the Disney Channel the next weekend. (Disney calls it "TV you do.") Whatever it is, our users like it. |
| |
| Ally McBeal |
You might think the mcbuzz over McBeal would be played out by now, but it ain't. The latest brouhaha is over "Ally," a new weekly half-hour version of the show constructed from clips of previous shows. You could call it "McBeal lite" if that term wasn't already being used to describe Calista Flockhart's dropping weight. |
| |
| Xena |
Another old favorite. After a dormant summer, Xena, Warrior Princess is back on the warpath with Web users. 'Nuff said about that, except to point out that we have a nice links page for star Lucy Lawless.
Sociological conclusion: if a show is named for a character ("Felicity"), fans search for that title character. If not (as with "Snoops"), people ignore the title and the character and focus instead on the star's real-life name. That's maybe not an insight Margaret Mead would drool buckets over, but it does seem a very dependable pattern.

 | BalloonsPlumbing
These two terms have been extra-popular in the last week, and we have no idea why. (And with "plumbing" we're not sure we want to know.)
Ideas, anyone? Drop us a line on the boards.

Two astute scribes suggested that the rush on GUNS could be traced to the back-from-the-dead appearance of Guns n' Roses. The group's first album in years is due sometime this fall. Tip o' the Lycos 50 cap to Jeff Chapman and to Jon Reeves of the IMDB.
TITANIC queries could be the result of Gloria Stuart's book tour, suggests user boards Stuart (who played the 104-year-old dame in the film) has just written an autobiography, "I Just Kept Hoping."
FROGS. Here's another take on this ongoing puzzler: reader boards writes, "Unfortunately people have been finding a lot of bizarrely deformed frogs lately." (The message also includes a link to some very odd deformed frog photos.) Could this be the cause of the rush on frogs?
Earlier, users Cole and Brigtoofar suggested that hurricane sufferers may be wondering how to handle boards. If frog searches continue next week, we'll know that's probably not it.
The BENJAMIN is a brand-new hotel in New York City, notes user boards, who also points out that (yoops!) the details can be found on our very own site.
