Hot New Anchor: Laurie Dhue We've been pointing out over the last couple of weeks how the terrorist attacks have dramatically increased searches for news outlets. What has been just as noticeable has been the accompanying increase in searches for news reporters.
The newscaster receiving the most searches, however, is not one you would expect. It is neither a host of a morning show nor a host of a major network evening news program.
No, the most popular news reporter is Laurie Dhue of the Fox News Channel. Dhue is a news update anchor and a host for weekend specials. She joined Fox one year ago after stints at CNN and MSNBC.
We're not sure why Dhue is so suddenly popular. She's a good-looking blonde, but certainly not the only one on the news these days. Dhue has always received a handful of searches each week -- which is more than most news reporters -- but her searches have quadrupled in the last two weeks.
Another news reporter who has been getting a lot of online attention is CNN's Paula Zahn. Part of that is because before September 11, she was Fox News' Paula Zahn. The week before the terrorist attacks, Fox fired Zahn for what they claimed was a breach of contract -- that CNN had contacted her about jumping networks. Of course, once Zahn was fired, she was able to jump networks anyway and she premiered on CNN September 11. She's been getting a lot of face time during the war coverage.
Here is a list of this week's top ten news personalities, nearly all of whom received very few searches prior to September 11 (with the exception of the controversial ex-actress Andrea Thompson).
1)) Laurie Dhue, FOX
2) Paula Zahn, CNN
3) Peter Jennings, ABC
4) Larry King, CNN
5) Andrea Thompson, Headline News
6) Katie Couric, NBC
7) Dan Rather, CBS
8) Bill Hemmer, Headline News
9) Christiane Amanpour, CBS/CNN
10) Barbara Walters, ABC
