What the Arrows Mean: Up and down arrows indicate movement from last week's Lycos 50. A black dot means no change in position.

What the Numbers Mean: The first number indicates chart position last week. (An x means the term was not on the chart last week.) The second number indicates the number of consecutive weeks the item has been on the Lycos 50.

Diva Up, Diva Down

Earlier this week it seemed that electronic games were the hot new search item. But now the focus has shifted to actual humans -- in particular, to famous women. It's diva day on the Lycos 50, so let's tour...

Today's Hotties

Diana Ross

Diva down! As you seem to have heard, Diana Ross got slapped down by British customs this week. The former Supreme didn't like the way she was frisked, raised a ruckus, and got herself hauled off a crowded airliner for her trouble. Well, it's one way to get back in the spotlight.

Francine

Former wrasslin' diva Sable has retired, so a batch of ladies are fighting to become pro wrestling's Next Big Thing. Francine Fournier is a good bet, judging from recent user searches. Fournier works for Extreme Championship Wrestling as a "manager," which seems to involve her jumping into the ring in a series of impractical outfits.

Sophia Loren

Here's a surprising one: actress Sophia Loren got a rush of hits this week after she turned 65 on Tuesday. Her birthday was front-page news in Italy, which may have helped boost searches. Still suave, Loren called being a diva "a job like any other."

Dateline's Eggs

Enough divas. We also had a sudden rush on Dateline and eggs this week after the NBC show ran a scary story about egg freshness. We often notice small rises in queries after TV investigative reports, but this was a serious jump -- the story seems to have rung a lot of people's bells.

Early Warning: Flat Eric

If you're in Europe you already may have seen Flat Eric. He was the ad hit of the summer overseas (or so we're told). He's a yellow puppet who mostly rides around in an old Chevelle, rocking to a techno-beat soundtrack, in ads for Levi's Sta-Prest clothes. We hadn't heard of him, frankly, but the steady user queries make us think he'll make his way to the US pretty soon.

    Mystery Terms

    Here's to you, Mystery Robinson...

Who is this Robinson people are searching for lately? I'd like to think that Edward G. is back, but that seems unlikely. And it's too early for David. Thoughts, anyone?

We're also seeing a smaller bump on clowns, by the way.

Ideas on why clowns are hot? Send 'em in -- leave your mark on the boards.

    Case Closed!

    Recent mystery terms solved:

"GELLER is almost certainly a misspelled Gellar," according to the friendly Jon Reeves of the IMDB. He points out that Sarah Michelle Gellar's movie Cruel Intentions has just come out on video.

A new take on FROGS comes from users Cole and Brigtoofar. They suggest that boards -- and the recent web queries are hurricane sufferers wondering how to handle the hoppers.

CINDY MARGOLIS just appeared on "Suddenly Susan" where she was described as the "hottest woman on the Web," according to user boards. Plus she's going to be on the UPN series "Shasta McNasty," reports user boards. And she was just on "WCW Smackdown," says user boards No wonder she's popular.

LAUNDRY is the name of an up-and-coming band headed by former Primus drummer Tim Alexander, according to user Contort.
