| Floyd |
The latest Storm of the Century, Hurricane Floyd, may be merely a class 4 storm but he's now a solid class 5 search term. In harm's way? Try our hurricane tracking map or catch the latest Floyd news flash. Or (if you're comfortably far from the storm) you may enjoy InfoPlease's complete weather disaster special. |

| Lou Bega |
Coming soon to a wedding reception near you: Lou Bega and his novelty hit 'Mambo #5.' It's a dance tune in the Macarena mode -- "Shake your head to the sound, put your hand on the ground, take one step left and one step right" -- you get the idea. Lou's tune is already a whirlwind hit in Europe and seems to be headed towards North America with all the hideous destructive capacity of a class 5 mambo hurricane. |

| Soul Reaver |
"Battle five different clans of vampires as you explore a vast 3D world" says the official description of the role-playing game Soul Reaver. It runs on the Playstation platform -- maybe another reason Playstation is #11 on this week's Lycos 50. Soul Reaver seems a bit grim to be a mainstream hit (and it lacks a class 5 star like Lara Croft), but it's certainly getting heavy searches. |

| Mahazalim |
Our Malay is a little rusty, but Mahazalim seems to be a popular search term for the political opposition -- the 'reformasi' -- in Malaysia. The reformers are led by ex-finance minister Anwar Ibrahim, now a political prisoner. For a smallish country it's getting a lot of search action lately. Of course Malaysia is just around the corner from East Timor -- could be another storm brewing. |

| One To Watch |
Think Hanson meets Nirvana: the boys in Silverchair were only 15 when their neo-grunge album 'Frogstomp' was a hit Down Under in 1995. The lads are practically shaving now, and their '99 album 'Neon Ballroom' even includes a performance by touchy pianist David Helfgott of 'Shine' fame. ("Turgid midtempo Weltschmerz" says Rollingstone.com in its review.) We aren't seeing hurricane-type hits on Silverchair, but the teen humidity does seem to be rising. You might want to post a watch. |

 | Mystery Terms |
 |
 | These terms are getting heavy traffic lately and we have no idea why:
Gospel
Thunderbird
Laundry
'Laundry' is the winning curiosity there, for my money. What can it be? College freshmen looking for help with the socks? If you can clean up any of these terms, drop a line to the boards. Operators are standing by.

 | Case Closed! |

 | Recent mystery terms solved:
JOANNE: For Joanne Rowling, author of the 'Harry Potter' book series featured on the cover of Time Magazine this week? So suggests reader boards.
LIL: Almost certainly an homage to lady rapper Lil' Kim, who showed up at last week's MTV awards in an attention-grabbing outfit.
LOBSTER: Seems to be buzz for the new Live Lobster Cam direct from the Lobster Institute (no foolin') at the U. of Maine. Thanks to reader Papersucks for that tip.
BARBIE is donating her knees to science, notes reader J. Levine. This seems the likely cause for her recent popularity.
