The Astrological Whirl (Note: The weekly Lycos 50 list will be posted on Wednesday this week.) Let's not mince words: horoscopes are big online. Really big. You don't see horoscopes ranked on the Lycos 50 because they're one of those large general terms that never really go up or down. But last week, for instance, horoscope searches would have ranked at #2, just between Survivor and Britney Spears. Horoscope searches are just as popular (and steady) as other general hotties like "movies" and "health." Two particular sub-genres get a lot of requests: Chinese horoscopes and love horoscopes. Chinese horoscopes do give you the added bonus of discovering that you're a rat as well as a scorpion. As for love horoscopes, if you are on that dreamy astral plane you may want to check out the Lycos romantic compatibility tester. For amusement purposes only (we presume). We also see a much smaller (but also dependable) number of searches for teen horoscopes. And we also have a rather piquant section for travel horoscopes -- you enter your birthday and date of travel, and the system tells you things like "Conditions are ideal for a foreign flight today." We also notice that the Lycos directory has a special section for pet horoscopes. Which makes us wonder about Chinese horoscopes for animals: what do you do if your cat is a rat?
