Extreme Wrassling, Extreme Weather |
Hurricane Dennis has recorded its first fatalities -- two motorists in a rain-slick crash, plus a thrill-seeking surfer. At last word Dennis was hovering off the North Carolina coast. We have a full news flash page with reports and links to other hurricane resources. To track Dennis online, see our weather map. |
TODAY'S HOTTIES |
Let's get right to the weekend's fastest-rising user requests. |

| Tiberian Sun |
Computer game Tiberian Sun is the follow up to the super-popular "Command and Conquer" battle strategy game. Just released, the game lets you "save earth from the ravages of Tiberium." (Whatever Tiberium is, of course.) Check these links for the latest in Tiberian Sun fan pages and user message boards. |

| Sophie Hawkins |
Sophie B. Hawkins, a sort of Sheryl Crow with a tad more folk, was extra-hot this weekend. She's on the stump behind her new album Timbre. The dics hit stores July 20 after a year-long battle between Hawkins and her label Sony over (believe it or not) her use of a banjo on one track. Hawkins guested on Politically Incorrect on August 14, and her song "Lose Your Way" is on the Dawson's Creek soundtrack. |

| Keynote |
Keynote Sytems calls itself "the world's leading supplier of Internet performance measurement services." They've been hot lately, perhaps because of their web broker index showing the time it takes to make a trade on various online stock services. |

| ECW |
Bring back Andre the Giant! ECW is short for Extreme Championship Wrestling, now battling the WWF and the WCW for worldwide pro wrasslin' supremacy. The Nashville Network just put ECW on its Friday night schedule alongside Roller Jam, an updated version of the old roller derby. Surprise, surprise: TNN says the schedule is "targeted to teens and young men." |

| Early Warning |
It may sound like a denture cream, but Gundam turns out to be the latest Japanese animation craze to reach America. It's an animated sci-fi show positing a near future when most of the human race lives in outer space colonies. The Gundam craze has been going on for 20 years in Japan (with spinoffs including "Super Deformed Gundan") but the first English-language videos and comic books have only slipped into America this year. Gundan characters aren't as cute as Pokemon or Sailor Moon, but they seem to be on the upswing nonetheless. |

| And Finally... |
Searches for Waco were up this weekend, but only slightly. This despite the FBI's much-publicized admission that it used incendiary devices on the Branch Davidian compound in 1994. Perhaps this story boards in the public mind?
