Rising Star: T.D. Jakes T.D. Jakes sounds like the name of a private eye with a dusty office down the hall from Sam Spade. But in fact, Jakes is a real-life up-and-coming man of the cloth: over the last year Web searches for this Southern minister have been increasing steadily. You have to wonder if he's the next Billy Graham, or at least the next Jimmy Swaggart. Jakes has a touch of John Gray: he specializes in preaching healing to women and men and to "explaining" the sexes to each other. Jakes's book Woman Thou Art Loosed seems to be an enduring hit, and he now runs male-only conferences called "ManPower" that sound somewhat like the PromiseKeepers ideal. Jakes's official ministry is in Dallas, where he heads a church known as The Potter's House. Besides tending his flock, he writes books, makes TV and radio appearances, runs conferences, and generally seems to get around. That's not to say he's a smash search hit just yet. Last week Jakes got as many user searches as Houdini, salvage yards, spina bifida and Bozeman, Montana. That's not impressive company, but what is impressive is the way Jakes has been steadily marching up our search logs for the last year. If that keeps up you'll be hearing a lot more about him soon.
