Sea Monsters and Giant Schnauzers Time for another journey down to the depths of our search logs.
All the terms below got more than 10 but less than 60 user searches last week, making them minor players in the search universe. Still, it's always fascinating to realize what some people are thinking about...
GIANT SCHNAUZER RESCUE
At first glance this looks like an exciting news story or perhaps a very bad sci-fi movie. Turns out "rescue" is just a dramatic term for what used to be called "getting" a dog at the pound.
Dog rescue, it seems, is a very hot topic online: once we started looking we found searches for poodle rescue, Boston terrier rescue, Great Danes, pugs, etc, etc.
CATHOLIC GUILT
Now here's a query that tells a story. Four dozen people came to Lycos last week and asked for information on Catholic guilt? (Or was it one person asking four dozen times?) That may be so, but a web search shows that "Catholic Guilt" is also the name of an obscure old rock band. Should have expected it.
BRUCE COCKBURN
Remember this guy? He was hot stuff in the early '80s, singing pop songs of social significance and dissing President Reagan, sort of a Don Henley-meets-Pete Seeger thing. Cockburn's still recording, we see from his discography (28 albums!), but hasn't had a top-40 hit since "Wondering Where the Lions Are."
THE WIGGLES
Australia calling! Turns out the Aussies have more than the Olympics and those annoying Outback Steakhouse commercials. The Wiggles are a cross between Sesame Street and the Kids in The Hall: four guys who entertain kiddies with song and dance According to their own home page, "It has been estimated that one in two toddlers in Australia either sing-a-long to The Wiggles on video or CD at home or have been to a Wiggles concert." Yow!
SEA MONSTER PICTURES
Some topics endure forever. (Nessie lives!) You might be able to find sea monster pictures online, sure. But don't expect too much.
So much for the depths. Tomorrow we'll head back to the hot and near-hot topics of the Lycos 50.
