The Scooter Craze Summer's here and scooters are rolling. Yes, suddenly scooters are the latest transportation fashion trend. These aren't the old-fashioned fat red kiddie models, or the motorcycle-type variety. These are teeny svelte scooters, just the two wheels and a tall handlebar. Some searchers call them push or kick scooters, others call them minis or micros. Last week scooters got about as many Lycos user searches as guns or birthday cards -- two dependable favorites. (Guns and scooters?) Overall scooter searches have doubled since June 1, tripled since May 1. Far and away the most-requested brand name is Razor Scooters. In fact Razors accounted for fully 30% of all scooter queries last week -- a remarkable total for a single brand. Among motorized models -- the ones with the itty-bitty motor on the back of the scooter platform -- the favorite brand names seem to be Mosquito and Viza. And what of Vespa, the classic bulky riding Euro-scooter? Last week for every one user who asked for a Vespa, five asked for a Razor Scooter. Times change.
