Oh, the oddities that turn up in Web search logs...
We've just noticed that every week a few hundred people search Lycos for "Pink Floyd and Wizard of Oz." What th--?
Turns out if you cue up Pink Floyd's famous Dark Side of the Moon album at just the right moment you get a freaky alternative soundtrack for the movie, one that's filled with odd coincidences. (As if enough time hadn't already been spent analyzing Dark Side of the Moon in college dorm rooms, laser shows, opium dens, etc, etc...)
Among the odd movie/album coincidences: Pink Floyd sings "which is which" just as a witch appears; heartbeats sound while Dorothy listens for the Tin Man's heart; and "the Munchkins seem to dance in beat during the guitar solo." (And dude, the cover of the album has white light turning to colors, and the movie switches from black and white into color!)
One hitch is that the movie is twice as long as the album. Some say you should just play the album twice, others say you should put on a whole different record. Some even say you should try playing Pink Floyd with Stanley Kubrick.
Well, it is pretty interesting, after all. Certainly you have to admit there are an astonishing number of web sites devoted to the "Pink Oz" idea.
And if that's not enough for you, check out the wacky rumor of the Wizard of Oz Hanging.
