Say It Ain't So, Luther! "Vandross dead"... "Luther Vandross dies"... "death of Luther Vandross"... in the last ten days we've seen a sudden surge of morbid user searches for R&B crooner Luther Vandross. Fans can relax: the honey-voiced love machine has not crooned his way across that ol' River Jordan. According to Steve's Luther Vandross Page, not only is Vandross alive and well but "from July 1st thru 3rd he is appearing at the Essence Music Festival at the Louisiana Superdrome." There, according to newspaper reports, Vandross told the crowd "I sound real good for somebody who's dead." Still the rumor rolls on, apparently born and bred on the Internet. Luther Vandross queries are up 1000% in the last seven days. Three weeks ago he got only about as many searches as the theremin or Victoria Principal; last week he got more searches than Martha Stewart and almost as many as Barbie.
