Top Classic Video Games

On Friday we discovered that the classic video game Galaga receives as many searches per week as the religion of Santeria. Today let's take a look at which other classic video games get searches from Lycos users.

None of these games gets too many queries each week. The highest, by far, is Pac-Man, which receives about four times as many as the next-highest, Frogger. Pac-Man gets as many searches per week as another target of nostalgia, Scooby-Doo.

Here are last week's top classics:

1)   Pac-Man
2)   Frogger
3)   Centipede
4)   Space Invaders
5)   Donkey Kong
6)   Asteroids

7)   Galaga
8)   Tron
9)   Venture
10)  Dragon's Lair
11)  Defender
12)  Mappy

As a favor to readers, you can click here to hear a sample of Buckner and Garcia singing the classic "Pac-Man Fever," straight from their website.

Personally, we at the Lycos 50 are very depressed about the absence of our favorite superheroine, Ms. Pac-Man. The first lady of video feminism receives a miniscule number of searches, the same number as the town of Pekin, Illinois and some fruity movie called Pear Harbor.

More than any particular video game, we get searches for MAME, the program which emulates classic video games on your computer. MAME searches, interestingly enough, go up in the wintertime, when I guess Lycos users stay inside and have extra time to play Amidar on their PCs.

TOMORROW: The new Lycos 50.
