We've just finished a survey of the most-searched-for movie actors and actresses for the last two full months, April and May. Yesterday we reported on the top actresses from that period.
And now for today's list: Hollywood's most-wanted manflesh of the last two months:
1 Russell Crowe
2 Brad Pitt
3 Bruce Lee
4 Leonardo DiCaprio
5 Will Smith
6 Tom Cruise
7 Ryan Phillippe
8 Jet Li
9 Keanu Reeves
10 Hayden Christensen
11 Adam Sandler
12 Jackie Chan
13 Christian Bale
14 Josh Hartnett
15 Kevin Spacey
16 Bruce Willis
17 John Wayne
18 Robin Williams
19 Mark Wahlberg
20 George Clooney
Yesterday we saw the late Marilyn Monroe at #11 -- today it's the late Bruce Lee at #3 and the late John Wayne at #17. You need not be alive to be hot online.
Lee, still the karate king after all these years, is one of three martial artists in the top 20: Jet Li (#8) and Jackie Chan (#12) are the others. Li is hot because of his appearance in the spring film Romeo Must Die, and Chan is also in the recent release Shanghai Noon.
Another similarity to yesterday: unknown actor Hayden Christensen (#10) has been white-hot ever since it was announced that he'd play Anakin "Darth Vader" Skywalker in the next installment of the Star Wars series. He joins Natalie Portman (#3 among actresses) as stars whose search fame rests on their connection to George Lucas.
Kevin Spacey got the Oscar this year, and he gets tons of props as the hottest actor of his generation -- but he doesn't seem to ring many bells with Lycos surfers. He's still four slots below Keanu, after all. And Jim Carrey, famously dissed by the Academy, couldn't crack the top 20 among Web users, either. (He came in at #22.)
Finally: with Russell Crowe at #1, you've got to wonder if every other guy in Hollywood is out hunting for a bare-chested Roman script right about now. Crowe was nowheresville at the start of this year, but his star turn in the movie Gladiator has landed him on the Lycos 50 for six weeks running. That guy really is ringing bells with surfers.
That's it for now. We'll run the actor numbers again in August to see how Hollywood's stars have fared over the summer.
