Time for another edition of Equally Popular. This weekend we'll be taking a look at religion online.
We've checked out the searches for 13 different religions and put them in order from most-searched to least-searched, along with two other items that received the same number of searches last week.
As we've noted in the past, Wicca is the #1 religion online. Wicca finished as the #91 term on Lycos for the year 2000, mostly because of searches during Halloween, but curious witch wannabes are searching for it all year round.
As far as more conventional religions go, Islam is actually #1. It receives about 77 percent more searches than Buddhism and 158 percent more than Christianity. We didn't include searches for specific sects of Christianity, however, such as Baptist or Lutheran.

At the risk of editorializing (too late), we are shocked that Scientology gets more searches than Christianity and nearly twice as many as Judaism. Must be all the John Travolta fans rapidly anticipating the double-disc, special limited edition DVD release of Battlefield Earth.
Other than that, the most astonishing item on this list is the number of people who searched last week for the 80's video game Galaga. In fact, we love Galaga so much it got us thinking about classic video games and Lycos users. That's going to be Monday's article.
Have a good weekend of multi-denominational religious worship.
