Movers & Shakers: "The Sopranos" Finale
June 19, 2007

The deceased - or is he? - Vince McMahon gained 9,800% this week followed by HBO's The Sopranos, which gained 219%. The Sopranos ended its six season run on June 10 with a finale that baffled most of America. The show cut to black in the middle of a pivotal scene during which Journey's power ballad, "Don't Stop Believin" played. Viewers were immediately up in arms. Many called their cable providers, assuming that HBO had cut out. Once they realized that yep, this was the ending, they took their rage - en masse - to the internet and registered their disgust and feelings of betrayal.

Little upsets television nerds as much as an ambiguous ending to a beloved series. I remember years ago, a series closer to my own heart, Angel ended with a similar cut to black during a pivotal scene. I was inconsolable and unable to get out of bed for a week. Some David Chase apologists are lauding the ambiguous ending and calling it "thought-provoking," but as we all know, denial is merely one phase of grief. They will come to embrace their bitterness soon enough.

You know who loved the ending of The Sopranos? Journey. Downloads of "Don't Stop Believin" cracked the top 20 in iTunes after the episode aired. Don't stop...

Katie Couric climbed 71% this week after she was basically called a "tart" by former CBS News anchor Dan Rather. Rather said, "The mistake was to try to bring the Today Show ethos to the evening news and to dumb it down, tart it up in hopes of attracting a younger audience." Really, Katie Couric, stop destroying serious news with your ovaries!

The Landlord is Will Ferrell's hilarious viral video. Check it out.
