With the 2008 presidential race kicking into gear, we thought we'd take a look at the most popular candidates with web users. The top 5 most popular candidates this week are:

Hilary Clinton is seeing the most search activity with 125% more searches than Republican Fred Thompson. Fred Thompson is not yet an official candidate, but the "Law & Order" actor is likely to join the race. ABC News has reported that he is third in polls behind Rudy Giuliani and John McCain. Republican Ron Paul, who has been the focus of much Internet buzz but little mainstream media, is going to appear on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" on Monday. He is 133% more popular than high profile Democratic nominees John Edwards and Barack Obama.

Our top search of the week, Paris Hilton, surrendered to the LA County sheriff last night to begin her 23 day jail sentence. She turned herself in earlier than expected to avoid the papparazzi after attending the MTV Movie Awards (where host Sarah Silverman made some particularly harsh jokes at her expense). Paris's mug shot still looks as if she is in red carpet mode, actually. I am not sure what the "Us Weekly" writers will do with Paris out of the public eye for three weeks. Hopefully, Lindsay Lohan will continue to leave rehab for gym sessions and shopping on Robertson or it could be a slow month for the tabloids.
