(Due to the Memorial Day holiday, this week's new Lycos 50 list will appear on Wednesday, May 31.)One to Watch: A Perfect Circle We're watching Web traffic rise for a new band called A Perfect Circle. User searches have been shooting up in a classic exponential curve, rising nearly 1500% from March 1 to May 27th. (In January the group got exactly zero searches, so you've got to tip your cap to that kind of growth.) Last week the band got nearly as many searches as Tonya Harding -- a proud benchmark if ever there was one.
So who are these guys? The group's calling card is its lead singer, Maynard James Keenan, one of the founding members of Tool. A Perfect Circle's first album, Mer des Noms, just came out of the chute and they're touring behind it, opening for Nine Inch Nails (are they still around?) on a national tour.
In a recent review the New York Times said A Perfect Circle's sound "ranges from straight-forward big-riff rock to heavy, droning soundscapes to clean, simple pop to hard, heavy emoting." And who doesn't like heavy, droning soundscapes?
For more about this band, try a HotBot search. You may also want to see the world's shortest fan page, which includes a link to their official site. And of course, you can buy the album from our chums at Barnes and Noble.
