Batten Down for Britney
You've got to hand it to Britney Spears -- she's been a search juggernaut since early 1999, when her famous bare midriff first appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
She's claimed the turf Pamela Anderson used to own: the Web's hottest entertainer who isn't really famous because of her talent. Pamela has recently (and blessedly) faded out of the top 10, but right now you can't pry Britney out of the top 5 with a crowbar.
Now Ms. Spears has a brand new album: Oops, I Did It Again. The album, her followup to the ultra-hit ...Baby, One More Time, hit stores on Tuesday and has been selling briskly.
All of which leads us to ask: can this new album help Britney knock Pokemon out of the top spot? We'll know more tomorrow, when the week's new Lycos 50 comes out. Frankly, she's got a long ways to go: last week Pokemon more than doubled Britney's searches.
But at this point, we'd take nearly anyone as an improvement over the Pokemon juggernaut. Go girl!
