I Want A New Drug Yesterday, we took a closer look at the numerous searches for marijuana, the most popular drug online. Today we'll take a look at what other drugs, both legal and illegal, are popular among Lycos searchers. Last week, one of the questions at my clubs was: "Why hasn't ecstasy shown up on the Lycos 50 yet?" Well, ecstasy (the popular name for the chemical MDMA) is the #2 most-searched drug on Lycos each week. Last week it received about as many searches as Lord of the Rings or the Cincinnati riots, but that was only 80 percent of the searches needed to make the Lycos 50. Ecstasy doesn't have quite the subculture when compared to marijuana. There are very few searches for ecstasy pictures, and none for ecstasy legalization. It is just as easy to misspell, however: 43 percent of searchers asked for ecstacy. The third most popular drug is Viagra, which receives about 30 percent as many searches as marijuana and 83 percent as many as ecstasy. Viagra is the most-searched legal drug, even higher than alcohol, beer, or tobacco. It is also the only drug that gets a significant number of searches for jokes. Well, that's not entirely true; the beer link goes to a more fun place. The biggest surprise?
