We've noticed an unexpected term rising up the Lycos ranks recently: wood projects.
Searches for wood projects slowly grew over the past four weeks at about 25 percent per week. Then last week they exploded and tripled. Last week the phrase received as many searches as the phrase supermodels or the animated cartoon Outlaw Star.
We've been seeing even more growth from the phrase free wood plans; searches for that phrase quadrupled last week after steady growth over the last month.
What kind of wood projects are people looking for? Well, decks seem to be a hot item. Searches for deck plans have been rising at about 10 percent per week over the past five weeks.
When we look back at the past, searches for deck plans were also popular last spring and summer, but this much interest in free wood plans seems to be new. But we've checked where searches are coming from and this is legitimate interest. Is the economic downturn leading homeowners to become do-it-yourselfers when it comes to deck building?
Incidentally, we haven't seen any rise in searches for woodworking or woodworking plans. Why three related phrases are jumping but the term woodworking is not is a total mystery to us.
