One to Watch: Aaliyah
Get past Aaliyah's vowel-heavy name (it means "exalted one" in Swahili, we're told) and you can see a potential rising star.
Born in 1979, Aaliyah long ago made her mark as a teenage singing prodigy; her album "Age Ain't Nothin' But A Number" was a hit in 1994. She was a prodigy in more ways than one: that same year she married rap superproducer R. Kelly. (According to RollingStone.com, "Kelly turned some heads when he married the 15-year-old singer.")
Aaliyah's name suddenly jumped up our search logs last week, thanks to her appearance opposite Jet Li in the flick Romeo Must Die. (Everything about that movie has been hot with Lycos searchers.) And she's reportedly going back in the studio to cut a new album for release this fall. Aaliyah seems to be on the rise -- and after all, the girl is only 21.
