Movers & Shakers: Phil Spector murder trial
March 20, 2007

Record producer Phil Spector leads our list of movers and shakers this week with a rise of 2,600%. In 2003, Phil Spector was arrested for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson. Jury selection for Spector's trial began yesterday, with opening statements most likely beginning at the end of April. Lana Clarkson was found dead with gunshot wounds in the foyer of Spector's home in Los Angeles; Spector has said that he did not mean to shoot her. The judge agreed that this trial will be televised, which will make it the first celebrity case televised in Los Angeles since the O.J. Simpson case.

Boston singer Brad Delp increased 268%. Brad Delp was found dead in his house last week. He killed himself by burning two charcoal grills behind closed bathroom doors and died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Delp left a suicide note that he was lonely and lost his desire to live.

Other newsmakers this week include Heather Mills, who is starring on the latest season of "Dancing with the Stars." Certainly, many fans of "Dancing with the Stars" are probably involved in office pools as to when Heather's leg will fly off, but thus far, it remains attached.

"Desperate Housewives'" Teri Hatcher gained 975% this week. Teri Hatcher may be the most irrelevant actress ever to write a book abot philosophy. Teri, please stick to falling naked into bushes on TV and avoid future literary pursuits.
