People like to play games. Any check of the Lycos 50, particularly right after Christmas, will show you that video games are among the hottest topics online. But what about more conventional, classic games?
A check of Lycos searches shows that many people like to play those games too. After all, we rated Monopoly as the #12 toy when we looked at Christmas 2000 back in November.
Below we've taken a look at what non-computer games are most-searched on Lycos. Of course, many of these games can be played online as well; any game listed with an Internet link can be played at Lycos Gamesville for free -- and many games have cash prizes, too.
1) Chess
2) Solitaire
3) Bingo
4) Poker
5) Blackjack
6) Pinball
7) Mah Jongg
8) Scrabble
9) Backgammon
10) Bridge
11) Monopoly
12) Euchre
13) Roulette
14) Spades
15) Craps
16) Checkers
17) Risk
18) Hearts
19) Cribbage
20) Dungeons and Dragons
Some other things we've learned:
Card games are about three times as popular as board games.
More people search for drinking games than bridal shower games, but both get more searches than Cribbage.
Toymaker Hasbro gets more than twice as many searches as either competitor Milton Bradley or subsidiary Parker Brothers.
Llesser known games which get regular searches include the card game Illuminati and the strategy game Icehouse.
Surprisingly missing from the search logs: the classic road trip card game Mille Bornes.
