Pictures are one the most popular searches here at Lycos. But are Lycos users looking for pictures of the same people they search for overall? We decided to take a look.
We followed the same rules as the Lycos 50: we didn't include adult film stars, nor did we include searches for pornographic material. We counted searches for pictures, pics, photos, and galleries.
Here are the top 12 celebrities who were the subject of picture searches last week. As you can see, it is a decidedly female list:
1) Britney Spears
2) Jennifer Lopez
3) Pamela Anderson
4) Carmen Electra
5) Christina Aguilera
6) Madonna
7) Chyna
8) Anna Kournikova
9) Jessica Alba
10) Denise Richards
11) Eminem
12) Anna Nicole Smith
Now, let's take a look at the celebrities for whom the highest percentage of searches are for pictures. In order to qualify for this list, a celebrity had to receive at least 15 picture searches per day in the week ending February 10th. It turns out when it comes strictly to pictures, Britney may not be the teen queen:
1) Mandy Moore (31.0%)
2) Chyna (28.3%)
3) Lil' Kim (26.2%)
4) Stephanie McMahon (25.4%)
5) Johnny Depp (23.9%)
6) Britney Spears (23.8%)
7) Jesus (23.7%)
8) Sable (22.4%)
9) Justin Timberlake (21.7%)
10) Lita (21.3%)
11) Trish Stratus (20.1%)
12) Jennifer Lopez (19.5%)
Quite a performance by those WWF women, who hold five of the spots on this list. Stephanie McMahon, daughter of WWF head Vince, is definitely someone who has been rising in popularity recently.
And how about that hip new cat everyone wants pictures of: Jesus of Nazareth! He's big with the kids. The second-highest historical figure, in terms of total picture requests, was Adolf Hitler; the second-highest in terms of percentage was sprinter and Black History Month figure Jesse Owens.
Quite a surprise to see Johnny Depp so high on this list. His long run in low-grossing art films has apparently not diminished his sex symbol qualities. Other interesting celebrities who don't quite make the Top 12 include Hannibal actress Julianne Moore (18.4%) and Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst (18.6%).
Is Fred Durst a sex symbol? Do Lycos users really want that many pictures of a backwards baseball cap? I will now light myself on fire.
MONDAY: Equally popular, special Black History Month edition.
