Valentine's Day is one of the most popular holidays online, but it has been awhile since we took a closer look at just what searches make it so hot. They aren't quite what you would expect.

For instance, Valentine's Day doesn't seem to drive searches for candy or lingerie. Lingerie still got a ton of searches last week, of course, but no more than normal. Flowers and roses also rise a bit less than you might think, only 30 percent each over the past month.

Instead, searches demonstrate how popular Valentine's Day has become with our nation's children. Some of the fastest-rising Valentine's Day queries are Valentine crafts, Valentine decorations, and Valentine coloring pages.

That's a bit different from back when the Lycos 50 looked at Valentine's Day in 2000. Interestingly, Cupid searches are way down compared to three years ago.

Among adults, the most popular Valentine's Day searches are for love poems (#40 on the Lycos 50 this week) and Valentine's Day gifts. But while Lycos gets very few searches for Valentine gifts for women, we get a lot of searches for Valentine gifts for men. I guess we're hard to buy for.

Here are the romance-related terms with the most searches over the past two weeks, leaving out terms like lingerie that don't actually rise in popularity at Valentine time.
