We're now three weeks away from the Grammy Awards, so its time to take a look at who Lycos users would favor for the awards. Which musical artists do web users look for most?
Each year the Grammies toss in some nominations that are just off the wall -- Paul McCartney for best alternative rock? Steely Dan for best album? What is this, 1977? -- so it is hard to directly compare Lycos user searches to the nominees. Instead, we would like to present the top ten acts in five different categories, based on Lycos searches for the week ending January 27, and then we'll reveal who would win the main awards if Lycos users were doing the voting.
Today we'll take on pop, rock, and country. Monday, we'll look at rap, R&B and the major awards like Album of the Year. Don't forget that you can check out music videos, downloads, and pictures from these artists at Lycos Music.
Top Pop Artists:
Based on Lycos users, the pop Grammies would go to Britney Spears for Female Vocal and Pop Album, Ricky Martin for Male Vocal, and 'N Sync for Group Vocal. You also may notice that the next wave of teen pop is doing quite well, including made-for-TV act O-Town and made-for-Puffy act Dream.
Top Country Artists:
Based on Lycos users, the country Grammies would go to Faith Hill for Female Vocal and Country Album, Tim McGraw for Male Vocal, and Alabama for Group Vocal. At least, we assume some of those Alabama searches are for the band. Even if only a handful are for the band, they beat out the other country groups nominated, because country groups such as Brooks and Dunn and Asleep at the Wheel seem to have very little popularity among Lycos users when compared to solo country artists.
Top Rock Artists:
Lycos users have a more metal-oriented interest in rock music, so this list doesn't match up well with the conventional rock nominations. Based on Lycos users, the rock Grammies would go to Fiona Apple for Female Vocal, Lenny Kravitz for Male Vocal, U2 for Group Vocal, and Rage Against The Machine for Rock Album. Lycos users also would give Grammies to Limp Bizkit for Best Hard Rock, Slipknot for Best Metal, and Radiohead for Best Alternative Rock.
Join us Monday when we review the Rap and R&B genres, and check out Lycos user favorites for Best New Artist, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year.
