Let's talk lyrics.
Lyrics happens to be one of our most consistently popular search terms. We don't rank it in the Lycos 50 (too general), but if we did it would have been about #7 last week. Lyrics actually get more searches than music, songs, CDs, and most other musical terms.
This is all slightly ironic, since no really great lyrics sites are available online. Most of the old biggies like the International Lyrics Server and Lyrics HQ have tangled with music publishers over copyright laws and so now are carefully neutered. A few sites remain online by staying small enough to fly beneath the legal radar.
Even so, lyrics queries stay hot. Here are the 25 top lyrics requests we got at Lycos last week, most popular first:
1. Lyrics
2. Song lyrics
3. Music lyrics
4. Rap lyrics
5. R&B lyrics
6. DMX lyrics
7. Country music lyrics
8. Song lyric search
9. Juvenile lyrics
10. Lyric
11. Lyrics search

Snaps to DMX and Juvenile, the two rappers leading the lyrics parade. Below them a remarkable number of older groups are in play: Nirvana, REM, Pearl Jam, the Beatles. (What, no Dark Side of the Moon?).
One don't-miss site for lyrics fans: KissThisGuy.com, a compendium of misheard lyrics. The title comes from a mishearing of Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze ("'Scuse me while I kiss the sky..."). And don't forget you can always buy music at our very own LycoShop.
Tomorrow we'll tackle this week's new Lycos 50 list. Join us then, won't you?
