Britney Spears (#8) gained a couple of spots on the Lycos 50 this week, likely due to the drama surrounding her hospitalization early Friday morning. On January 3, Britney showed up almost two hours late for a deposition in her custody battle with K-Fed ... and later that evening, she refused to relinquish custody to her ex. A virtual circus of police and paparazzi gathered outside of Britney's house, and Britney was taken away in an ambulance (strapped to a gurney all Hannibal Lecter-style).

It was reported that Britney was being held on a 5150, meaning that she was considered a danger to herself or others. On Friday, Britney's visitation rights with her children were stripped temporarily. She returned home on Saturday after a hospital visit from - of all people - Dr. Phil.

We thought that the head-shaving and umbrella-smashing antics of 2007 were a low point for Britney, but it appears that the pop star's 2008 is off to an even worse start. We just hope that she gets the help she needs ... because frankly, its getting really tired.
