The Cornhuskers had a disappointing 2003 season, but the lack of a big bowl game didn't mean a boring final week of the year in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The woman who is making waves is full-time Web designer and part-time pornographic model Melissa Harrington (#9), who is also known as Melissa Lincoln on her private pornographic website. Harrington was actually ticketed by Lincoln police last week for posting on her Internet site nude photos of herself taken at a local bar.

The story raised a huge hue and cry about privacy on the Web, since the police ticketed her for the photos rather than while she was actually naked in the bar. Of course, this controversy is the best thing that could have happened to Harrington's modeling career, since she has gone from unknown girl-next-door type to symbol of Internet censorship. The affair certainly has interested Lycos users, who searched enough for Harrington's story and website to put her in this week's top ten.

SHE'S ON TOP: Not only is Paris Hilton still #1 on the Lycos 50, she actually kept Christmas out of the top slot for all of December.

TOP RESOLUTION: It's an annual tradition, as diet searches all jump onto the Lycos 50 during the week following New Year's. Atkins Diet moves up from #48 to #22, the South Beach Diet (#49) makes its Lycos 50 debut, and you can welcome Trim Spa (#30), Weight Watchers (#43), and just plain old diets (#46) back onto the list.

MUI TRISTE: Who is Anita Mui (#45)? She's a Chinese pop diva who passed away last week at the age of 40 after a battle with cervical cancer. She was a hugely popular singer as well as actress who might be known to American audiences for her roles opposite Jackie Chan in films such as Rumble in the Bronx.

WHILE YOU WERE OUT: The numbers under "last week" reflect the Lycos 50 for the week ending December 27, 2003, although that list never was posted online. Each year we miss one fun story during our Christmas hiatus and this year it was retired football star Joe Namath and his drunken interview on ESPN's telecast of the Patriots-Jets game, during which he mumbled incoherently and twice told reporter Suzy Kolber, "I want to kiss you." Namath was #26 last week.

SHORT SUBJECTS: For the first time since Xbox (#32) was introduced, searches for the Microsoft-owned game system surpass searches for Sony's Playstation 2 (#35) this week... As for specific video games, fewer of them saw searches rise after Christmas this year than in years past... Two winners shared a $221 million Powerball (#6) jackpot this week... The recent U.S. outbreak of Mad Cow disease (#39) showed up on the Lycos 50 over the past two weeks.
